The Downdog on Yoga Kala


Hi yogis!

I thought it was probably time to share information with you about me and all things yoga.

So a little about me,

I'm Katie, I've been practicing yoga for 17 years and started teaching not long ago. I'm also a registered nurse and a writer, performer and producer for The Old Married Couple (yeah, busy bee, but I wouldn't have it any other way ;). I love yoga, always have, probably always will. I come to my mat to let go, to challenge my body and my mind, to find the strength to face challenging things in life, to generally feel better in my body and simply because it's built into me now, much like brushing my teeth everyday, I practice yoga everyday!

The style of yoga that I teach and prefer to practice 9 times out of 10 is called Vinyasa. Vinyasa is a dynamic and flowing style of yoga which means that it is more of an athletic style of yoga, we don't spend a great deal of time on the floor, we move with the breath and create strength and heat in the body. Every class that I teach is different, even if they came from the same class plan there will be something different thrown in to keep you on your toes, pardon the pun ;). My classes are appropriate for all levels from complete beginner to the seasoned yogi with lots of modifications for people with injuries or tight muscles and opportunities to take your practice further if that's where you're at.

I just want you to love the skin that you're in and enjoy your practice, when you're on you mat, be nowhere else, be immersed in your flow, don't worry about what's going on outside of class, what the person next to you is doing or what you're having for dinner, take the time out to just be in the moment.

And who is Yoga Kala, what does that even mean?

Well yoga means unity or to yoke and kala means time, so together it's Yoga Time, time for oneness. To come together with your mind, body and breath.
