How long have you been practising yoga for?

4 Years

Why did you start practising yoga?

We had welcomed twins (Lachlan and Keira) into our lives, I was working 6 days and doing a IT degree full time so you could say I was a little stressed. My wife told me to give it a go and I loved it from the first class.

What brings you back to your mat/what do you love about yoga?

I love spending an hour where I can take it slow, focus on my breathing and try to reduce the noise in my head. Feeling my body improve in strength and flexibility with each session.

What has yoga done for you/what has yoga taught you?

Yoga has taught me to take a moment to slow down and take a breath not that it always works. Also I can touch my toes now

Why do you practice yoga?

To keep my mind and body in check. When I started to do Yoga I was seeing an Osteo every month but after a few months I stopped going as yoga was making my body feel so much better.

What is your favorite class or style to practice?

I love Vinyasa the continuous flow just really connects with me and it pushes me physically. I'm wanting to try a Sculpt class soon.

What's something you'd like to learn in future?

Headstand but I'll have to work on my core strength before that. Also want to continue improving my balance.

What's your favorite yoga pose and why? *

Plough, It was a real challenge for me to get there and I love the fact that I can do it comfortable now.

What's your least favorite yoga pose and why?

Fish, I just don't like having my neck exposed like that.

What's something your yoga community may not know about you?

I'm passionate about sustainability, I really want to to build a sustainable home and get an electric vehicle.

How long have you been practising yoga for?

2 years

Why did you start practising yoga?

I started practicing yoga for rehabilitation purposes. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in late 2017 and started yoga in mid 2018 after my doctor shared the many benefits of yoga for my condition.

What brings you to your mat/what do you love about yoga?

Pain relief, joy, community and I love Katie ❤

What has yoga done for you/what has yoga taught you?

Yoga has given me my life back and has assisted me in areas of my life outside of classes. Because yoga has become a part of my everyday life, I have been able to combine yoga and alternative medicine to come off high doses of prescription pain medication for my chronic pain and use the tools from my practice including breathing, movement and mantra to significantly lower my pain, improve movement and stabilise my anxiety. Yoga has taught me to be proud of my body and focus on what it CAN do. I have also learned patience with my body and that although I may not be able to do something right now, with practice, I can achieve things I thought I may not be able to later on. I have also learned the incredible connection between the brain, breath, sound, the body and pain relief. Some days I have come to class or practised at home and my pain levels have been at an 8/10. With practice, I have been able to learn how to breathe and focus to allow space in my body and brain in order to lower my pain levels from 8/10 to in some parts of my practice, no pain at all - which is amazing to me.

Why do you practice yoga?

I practice because it gives me joy, gives me purpose and it's something I am in control of, that I know works!

What is your favorite class or style to practice?

I mainly do Restorative to keep my body happy but if I am feeling strong, I LOVE Vinyasa. Since coming to Katies classes, I have also found a lot of benefit and success with sound therapy. That's one of my favourite parts of the classes.

What's something you'd like to learn in future?

I would love to get back to shoulder stands again! I'd also like to learn how to be more confident in my balance and standing poses.

What's your favorite yoga pose and why?

I love pigeon pose. Often my hips are quite tight and this gives an amazing stretch.

What's your least favorite yoga pose and why?

Hmm maybe 3 legged dog? Balance is not my strong point and I'm scared of falling over lol

What's something your yoga community may not know about you?

I'm a musician - I play guitar and sing 😊

How long have you been practising yoga for?

On and off for 4 years

Why did you start practising yoga?

I was a gymnast growing up and have always loved the holistic approach of flexibility and strength focused exercise, a gym atmosphere has never appealed to me and I found yoga when I was in need of a practice that fuelled my mental health as well as my physical well-being.

What brings you to your mat/what do you love about yoga?

I love every aspect of yoga (accept half moon pose)... It motivates me to push myself both on and off the mat; physically and mentally. I feel more connected to myself and my purpose when I have a consistent practice, it helps me to be centred and grounded and it makes me feel strong!

What has yoga done for you/what has yoga taught you?

Yoga has taught me to be gentle with myself and to step outside of my comfort zone. It has been a massive tool in helping me accept myself the way I am and helped me see that I am very capable of learning and improving when I put my energy into it.

Why do you practice yoga?

It is amazing for my physical and mental health, and helps me to feel balance on all planes of my existence; mind, body and spirit.

What is your favorite class or style to practice?

I love sculpt! The combination of quick vinyasa flows and HIIT/weights is so rewarding and it always leaves us in fits of laughter when we start to fall in heaps towards the end of a session. Its hard work but it's a great energy release!

What's something you'd like to learn in future?

Long term, I would love to be able to stand on my hands with the same stability I have when I stand on my feet. Short term, learning how to transition from one pose to the next elegantly is a big goal of mine.

What's your favorite yoga pose and why?

I love being in Down Dog, the stability of having hands and feet planted into the mat and the stretch of the posterior legs is a great feeling and of course being inverted is a plus! I love being upside down. Forearm headstand is a close second!

What's your least favorite yoga pose and why?

Half Moon pose (baneofmyexistenceasana)... I just can't seem to find the stability in my feet to hold this pose. Balancing is a big hurdle for me though, it's not the poses fault.

What's something your yoga community may not know about you?

I am in the process of studying to become a yoga teacher in 2020. Currently working as a Remedial Massage Therapist is very taxing on the body and I cant wait to add yoga teaching to my bag of tricks, I really think it's going to be a game changer for me!!
